Organized by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in collaboration with the Riti Academy of Visual arts, Shillong and the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), a six day event comprising of a symposium cum workshop, Film Screening, Food festival and an exposition of Arts and Crafts was held in NEHU from the 10th till the 16th of March 2016. Around twenty academicians and scholars have been presenting papers at the symposium on the topic “Significant of Bamboo in the Socio-Cultural and economic development of Northeast India”. Apart from the display of basketry products and workshops by the IGNCA, NESFAS also will be displaying an exhibit by Marcus Heinsdorff (Artist/Architect from Munich, Germany) titled “Design with Nature: Architecture and Art”, the Shillong Declaration from the recently held Indigenous Terra Madre (ITM) in Meghalaya and also presenting an array of traditional Cuisines from Khweng (Ri-Bhoi), Nongtraw (East Khasi Hills) and Chandigre (West Garo Hills) under the “Mei Ramew Food Stall”.

The event seeks to promote bamboo arts and crafts and provide a platform for the different artisans to present and showcase their products.
